It is crucial for patients to follow post-operative care instructions diligently to minimize the risk of infection.
Another potential complication is fat necrosis. This occurs when some of the transferred fat cells do not survive the transplantation process, resulting in the formation of firm, lumps or nodules. While fat necrosis is usually harmless, it can cause noticeable irregularities in the buttocks' texture and require additional procedures to correct.
Furthermore, the risk of blood clot formation cannot be overlooked. When fat is harvested from one part of the body and transferred to the buttocks, there is a possibility of fat entering the bloodstream. If a fat clot forms and travels to the lungs, it can lead to a potentially life-threatening condition called pulmonary embolism. Additionally, patients must be aware of the risks associated with anesthesia. While rare, complications such as allergic reactions, respiratory issues, and even cardiac arrest can occur during surgery. It is imperative for the surgical team to conduct a thorough pre-operative assessment to ensure the patient's suitability for anesthesia and closely monitor their vital signs throughout the procedure.
Finally, poor surgical technique or inadequate post-operative care can lead to the undesirable outcome of fat embolism. If fat is inadvertently injected into blood vessels, it can travel to other parts of the body, potentially causing blockages that can be fatal. It is crucial for patients to choose a qualified, experienced surgeon who follows proper surgical techniques and post-operative protocols.
